I went on the Brazil trip with Mrs.Odehnal and Mestre Eclilson in 2014 together with my husband Erai. We had a fabulous and memorable time! I recommend this trip to everyone. I learned so much about the Brazilian culture, loved the museums, the art, the beaches, the food. Everything was wonderful and exceeded my expectations. I look forward to doing this again sometime soon.
Brasil's landscape is beautiful, exotic and picturesque; you will want to explore all the various interesting locals. The South Atlantic Ocean is awesome, refreshing and enjoyable; you will want to go swimming every chance you get. The people in Brazil are highly cultured, fun-loving, friendly and family oriented; you will to meet new people every day. As you learn the romantic language of Brazilian Portuguese, it will seduce you. The Brazilian cuisine is tropical and very delicious; it's absolutely and definitely recommended. Joining the Brazil tour with Mestre Eclilson and his wife was the most amazing trip and I will forever remember and would like to repeat it again and again.
This was my second trip to Brazil and first one organized by Mestre Eclilson. The accommodation and transportation that was arranged was excellent and allowed me to more thoroughly enjoy my time there. With his local knowledge I was able to experience areas where I wouldn’t otherwise have been able to go. The area around Porto da Galinhas is very beautiful with much to offer – I definitely recommend going!
My trip to Brasil was the most memorable trips of my live. I have practiced Capoeira for many years and thought going to Brasil would help me see the real roots of capoeira, to discover Brazilian culture and to immerse myself in Brazilian life. Mestre and everybody in Brasil made us feel like we were family. We experienced Brasil like no other traveller would ever experience. We discovered that the people from Brasil are welcoming, extremely kind and a country that absolutely will to go back too. Brasil stole my heart,I am certain of this and I can't wait to go back!!!! Miss you Brasil!!!
My husband Adam and I made our first trip to South America in the late fall of 2013 inspired by my study of capoeira with Mestre de Jesus. We resisted the temptation to try and explore the entire continent and stayed in Brazil spending time in the Amazon, Rio de Janeiro and Porto de Galinhas. Brazil is a vast (only a little bit smaller than Canada) and varied country with very friendly and diverse people. Being less hung-up about time than most North Americans, there is a very easy-going feel. Between the Amazon and the coastal areas, we spent lots of time in, or near the water that was warm, incredibly beautiful with interesting things in the water (pink dolphins!), on the water (little boats that I can’t recall the name of) and near the water (locals under umbrellas enjoying the fantastic views). The food was thoroughly enjoyable with the highlight being some of the most amazing fruit I have ever tasted. There was a variety of fruits that I had never even heard of turned into glorious juices and smoothies. Adam described acai as a cross between blueberries and chocolate. If it didn’t make me smarter, it certainly made me happy.
For the capoeira portion of the trip, I had assumed that we (the visiting students) would take classes with the locals and I was fully prepared to take classes with children as I am beginner. Much to my horror, Mestre brought teachers to us as a small class. The reason for my horror is that the four other students on the trip are very advanced and mostly my teachers at home. Oh well! What could I do but give it a try and it was great. I was never made to feel unwelcome - I was expected to try my best. It was a great experience to meet and learn from such experienced capoeiristas. We were also able to attend the batizados of several local groups where we were welcomed warmly and dazzled by their skill and energy. It was not all capoeira while in the area of Recife. We also visited interesting and beautiful sites such as small waterfalls (perfect on a hot day), historic cities, gorgeous beaches on dune buggies and therapeutic mud baths. Visiting a favela and seeing sugar cane cut by
hand in tremendous heat certainly helped me to appreciate how fortunate I am.
Normally, I would return from a big trip with a variety of items typical or reminiscent of the area such as jewellery or local art. Strangely, I bought almost nothing while in Brazil and I feel no regret as it was trip so rich in varied experiences that there was no need for material items. I cherish the images and the greater appreciation I have for the very high standard of living we enjoy in Canada
The warm breeze of the typical sunny afternoon in Recife was what my dulled senses woke up from a long journey. Suddenly all tiredness dispelled and I was brought back to life. What amazed me about Brazil, about Pernambuco and Porto de Galinhas is the bright all pervasive sense of life I was surrounded by. Colourful and generous, nature was "exploding" right before my eyes, and I felt like being caught in a carnival of flavours, sounds and all I could do was to extract every bit of this sweet nectar that kept pouring in my existence. Morning, 5 am, the sun is expanding glorious, already filling every corner with its warm light. Life and its carousel are on the move again. So far away from the cold humid, plumbeous and monochromatic winter days that Vancouver offers so generously. Inside my room, at the perfect fresh temperature,I didn't feel tired. I was just ready to jump again in that carousel of life. The breeze over the palm trees, the soft swishing of the leaves, the smell of the ocean, mixed with the voices of the awakening town of Porto, were my daily alarm clock. Many sounds, many music, many voices were part of my daily absorption of ache' (positive vibrations/energies) One of the many was Bentivi', that is the soft words that the homonymous bird sing to you all day long. Bentivi', which in my language, Italian, would roughly mean " I see you are well". Of course, how can possibly be otherwise? No sense of contraction, stress-free , head over heels. One of my many favourite schedules was the Cafe' da Manha, breakfast, which was always so abundant and delicious, and I had to force myself to limit my portions. Brazil is generous, very generous, is so generous that when you least expect it, while taking a rest under a Mango tree, a fruit just falls into your laps. Effortlessly. Seemingly, Brazilians are generous, welcoming people. Some of them might be very poor and yet they will make sure to treat you properly, even if they have to renounce their share of food. Brazil is rich in a way we cannot understand. Unless we experience it. Culturally brings together the Old Continent with the african and indigenous culture, with a distinctive sense of pride. In architecture and art it elegantly fuses exquisitely elaborated ornamental forms of the Portuguese and Dutch colonial style with the local forms and craftsmanship. Land of many precious stones, Brazil offers an incredible array of products, from jewelry to raw pieces, that can be bought at a contained price. Music and dance are the basic natural ingredients of the daily life here. Like confetti at a party, every corner is sprinkled by them. And there no need to have a reason, or a specific time to enjoy them.I was just caught in the flow, like a petal dances in the wind. Here everything is never experienced twice, be prepared for an incredible journey. At the end of it, l became well acquainted with the very Brazilian expression "Saudade" which I am afraid no English vocabulary would be able to translate properly. I felt like my being was crack open, addicted to that sublime nectar of life, just like clay soil under the baking sun is in desperate need of a rainstorm .
My trip to Brazil with Mestre Eclilson and Christianne in 2010 was a delightful experience with memories I will treasure forever. I loved how warm the days and the people of the Northeast are, as well as the surfing beaches and the relaxed vibe. I had a wonderful time and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to see that part of Brazil.
My experience in Brazil in 2011 with Mestre Eclilson and Christianne was completely and truly amazing! It is with no question a life changing experience. To this day and many more to come I continue to think about, talk about and share my experiences with all the current friends and people in my life today. On the tour I got to learn and experience more of its surrounding cultures in Brazil, speak a little Portuguese and make new friends. Plus I witnessed first hand how it glues people, friends and family's together from all different walks of life with no judgment. As part of our tour we visited a Favela (slums), where we donated clothes, toys, etc, to the people who resided in that Favela. Afterwards the people were so happy and grateful; that they became super excited to take us on a tour around the Favela to show off their homes to us. Food in Brazil is great, different and delicious, it is very easy to eat and find good fresh healthy produce. Where ever you are in Brazil you will always hear some form of music, people singing and dancing or trying to sell you something. Even when they beep their car horns in traffic, they make it sound like a cool little tune. Brazil made me appreciate things in my life that I would of never done before. If you want to add some real spice in your life then go to Brazil, it will make your heart, eyes and ears grow
The Brazil trip lead by Mestre Eclilson de Jesus and his wife Christianne (Dec 2014) was the most fun, jam packed, guided tour vacation I've ever
had; weaving in the best of the North-east culture, tropical beauty and incredible life changing destinations activities and sights.
Having lived in Brazil for over 3 years I felt like I received more in a few days on vacation with Mestre Eclilson than others would experience in a lifetime! I'm grateful to have had the opportunity.
Porto de Galinhas and its surrounding beaches are magical places to visit. There is so much to do and Pousada Violeta is so close to the most amazing beach which runs all the way down to Maracaipe. It's just a short stroll to the centre of town. Loved the entire tour! Highly recommended!
I took part of the Brazil Tour in 2012. I had a very good time, got to experience the culture of Brazil and meet some really nice people. One of the things I liked the most was the weather, the warm ocean and the attitude of the people. They seemed very relaxed about life and not living by the clock like we do in North America.
The food – especially the assorted fresh fruits – is simply amazing! I also really enjoyed visiting the different cities and seeing the contrast between the big cities and small towns. The tour was fun and very interesting. Mestre Eclilson and his wife make really good tour guides, they took really good care of us. I would love to do this again when my child is a bit older.
What can I say about the Brasil trip with Eclilson and Christianne? Well, I went in 2008 and it was one of the best vacation trips I've ever experienced.
It was my first time travelling to the great city of Recife, which is in North Eastern Region. I loved everything about the Brazilian culture; the food, the beaches, surfing, the people. I will definitely be back.
I travelled with the tour organized by Mestre Eclilson and his wife in 2013 and I would recommend this trip to anyone. It is like having friends take you to their home and show you its secrets. Eclilson and Christianne love Brazil and they can definitely show you why it is such a great place to visit." (for a longer review from Clara, see video testimonials)
Our trip to Porto de Galinhas in late 2013 was a relaxing and delightful one. Mestre and Christianne were excellent hosts, providing tips and assistance in finding a great mix of standard tourist excursions and off-the-beaten-track hidden gems. The town is small enough to be walkable and relaxed, while also offering pretty much every amenity we could ask for. The food was great, the people warm and friendly, and the beaches welcoming and plentiful. We knew we were onto a good thing by the reactions we got from people before we went. None outside of Brasil had heard of it, but everyone inside the country said “I’ve always wanted to go there!” Clearly this is a well-kept Brazilian secret.
Visiting Brazil as part of the tour organized by Mestre Eclilson and his wife was an absolutely exceptional experience, and I feel very blessed to have travelled with the group; together we visited numerous historical sites throughout Pernambuco and a few, beautiful, out-of-the-way spots that I might not have otherwise found. The Pousada Violeta is a very cozy, beautiful place to stay – well organized, not-even-minutes from the beach, and right in the heart of the lovely Porto de Galinhas; itself a charming town filled with colourful and quirky sculptures of Chickens carved from the trunks of old coconut trees. It is a colourful, lively, town with something to offer for both those seeking to party, and those seeking to escape it. I feel very fortunate to have travelled to Brazil & eagerly await my next journey out!
The undiluted tourist experience with nary a Starbucks in sight. Abandon all expectations and enjoy this vibrant culture for yourself!
I thoroughly enjoyed the trip
I joined the Brazil Tour of 2013 and I got to say that I had a great experience! I had the chance to travel all around Recife and its surroundings areas. The food, the capoeira, the people…all of this was a really great experience to me especially since it was my first time in South America. And believe me without a doubt this trip has completely changed my perspective of Brazilian culture, people in general. And I would definitely recommend it to anyone who would like to experience South American culture. The tropical weather is without doubt the best of the best, so visit Brazil, have fun and enjoy!!!
I went to Brazil in December 2012 with Christianne and Mestre. It was my first time ever going to Brazil and I really enjoyed it a lot. We did so many things during that trip, all of them very memorable. We got to see plenty of nice beaches, eat great food - we go to tried fresh cajun, a local fruit very tasty but just don’t eat its kernel, apparently it’s bitter and its burns your mouth. Other than that, everything was great; the people, the culture, everything is just such beauty and I enjoyed it all. Such a great experience really and I would love to do it again. One thing that I really didn’t like though: Mosquitoes! They love foreign blood so beware and make sure to have mosquito repellent or mosquito net, other than that, great trip!
In the winter of 2013 I toured Brazil with Mestre Eclilson and Christianne. Along with other student we travelled in the Brazilian Province of Pernambuco. The capital of Pernambuco is Recife we stayed in a little town a few miles aways from Recife, named Porto de Galinhas, and it has the most wonderful beaches that I have ever seen. The most memorable time during my stay there is that one morning I went walk up before everybody else and just went walking along the beach in complete solitude. I just remember the feeling of being surrounded by warm air surrounded beautiful surroundings and will remember this for the rest of my life. Mestre and Christianne really look after us very well. Once I injured my foot on an small accident on site and they took me to a clinic right away where I was looked after really well. And the places where we stayed and the food we eat were all very excellent. Also the people we got to meet on site were all very friendly, very cheerful, very welcoming and were genuinely nice to us. So I really felt very welcomed when I visited that place. So I was really sad when I had to leave and I really hope that I will get a chance to go back there again.
